There is a lot of buzz today amongst the online marketing community about the importance of Personal Branding. All this means is taking who you are, what you know, and what you are passionate about and finding a way to represent that image on the internet.
Many marketers jump right into online marketing without thinking about the long term. Let’s say you have a great product to sell and are anxious to get some sales, so you jump in, promote the company and product until you build your business up then WHAM! Company goes out of business or encounters major legal issues. Everything you built is gone. No matter how much time you spent building up your team, that work is gone.
But, if you build your personal brand first and really think through what it is you are trying to accomplish in an online business. You need to think about your niche – what do you know the most about? most passionate about? how most people can relate to you and your brand? Once you have your niche, then you can break that down into categories of areas of expertise. Then, as people come to your blog or website, they see ‘YOU Inc.’, how you’ve branded yourself, and the expert that you are in your area.
Once you have that established, work your niche and drive traffic to your website. You will see that people will opt in to get more information from you once they see you as a brand, as a leader, and as someone that can help take them to the next level.
